While the Android Market boasts a huge selection of applications it isn’t always the best place to discover apps. You can browse the various categories in search of some great apps but sometimes you just want a different kind of interface or the input of a human reviewer who can weed through the trash to bring you the very best the Android app space has to offer. Here is a list of my favorite Android app directory and review websites.

Amazon Appstore
The Amazon Appstore doesn’t have all the apps you will find on the Android Market, but what you will find is a well-organized app store that is well complemented by the useful Amazon recommendation engine and user reviews.

AppGuide

AppGuide is part of the PCWorld.com site. While you can browse apps by categories and may find the site’s content to be a re-listing of Android Market apps, PCWorld.com editors often post expert reviews that can help you find gems. The site also lists iOS apps.

AppBrain
AppBrain is an app directory with its own rating system that makes for a powerful way to find the latest and best apps. You can browse apps based on rankings, reviews, and categories, costs (free and paid), top rated and all time popular.

BestAndroidAppsFor.com

This Android site makes no pretence of being a comprehensive app directory. Instead of listing a ton of apps the site focuses on providing roundups of the best apps from several categories. A typical article would be a roundup of the Free Android GPS apps.

Androidlib.com

This Android app website is an app directory similar to Appbrain, but it has advance search capabilities that makes it easy to search for apps that have a certain number of downloads and minimum overall ratings – great for finding popular and top-rated Android apps.

Android Tapp
This site is a great way to discover new apps. You can browse by categories or check the site ever so often to see what the expert reviewers think of the latest apps.

Google’s Android Market
The Android Market is the official Android app directory of the Android OS developer Google. You will be able to find lots of great apps here though the interface is not the best app discovery engine there is.

Appitalism
A fair way to discover apps by browsing the categories and review the list of Best paid, best free, hot and new Android apps.

GetJar
This is the place to get even premium apps for free. GetJar has a large database of free apps and has seen more than two billion downloads to date.

Handster
Discover apps by browsing the categories list of Android apps and see what is available for other popular platforms such as iPhone, Blackberry, Symbian and Java.
