There are quite a few Android VoIP apps on the Android Market that range popular solutions such as Skype to scores of lesser know apps. While there is seemingly no end to the number of Android VoIP clients to frustrate the uninitiated user there are some pretty good solutions out there if you know where to look.
Here are some of the best Android VoIP apps you can use to make calls over IP services such as WiFi, 3G, 4G and EDGE.
It is recommended that you use these services only over WiFi, owing to the fact that VoIP apps use quite a bit of data, which can quickly put you over your data plan cap and incur significant charges.
Of course you can make Internet calls on Androids running Gingerbread without installing a third party app (see the link above).
Voxofon – International Calls
This app integrates well with you phone so you can make international calls at cheaper rates by using your phone’s dialer. The app can also make calls to Skype, SIP, and GTalk users for free. When you signup for Voxofon you will be given some free credit to make international calls and send SMS text messages. After you use the free credit you can easily add more with your credit card or Paypal.
To make International Calls over WiFi or 3G/4G you will also need to install the Voxofon VoIP Addon.
FreePP : Free Call & Free MMS
This Android VoIP app is ideal for those who want to do more than just talk. In fact, FreePP supports multimedia messaging and file sharing. It can also be used to send emoticons, pictures, voice messages, and other files (videos, music, documents) to your FreePP contacts.
Of course both parties must have the app installed and running. This one has a pretty and non-business like interface.
Adobe Connect
Need to do a conference call over WiFi from your Android? Adobe Connect allows the business-minded user to host or join conference calls over Internet Protocol (IP). As with most Android VoIP solutions all parties must have Adobe Connect installed on their device to join the conversation.
The meeting host can launch meetings and control attendee access, rights and privileges from a mobile device. Adobe Connect clients can participate in multi-point video conferencing, with 2-way video if the participating devices have cameras. Participants can also see who is in the meeting, collaborate with others via live text chat, and respond to polls.
WiCall : VoIP Call, WiFi Call
Need an alternative to Skype? WiCall may be the solution for you. The app allows you to use your Wifi (or 3G /4G) to make VoIP calls with your Android phone or honeycomb tablet.
You may even find the rates to be cheaper than those you find on Skype. The audio quality is good too.
Sipdroid
If you are serious about finding a good VoIP or SIP solution to make calls over your data connection you ought to try Sipdroid.
Sipdroid is a free and open source SIP/VoIP Client that has been cloned and appears under other names, but this is the original that is being used by thousands.
